Dress for the day
Reputation is built on consistency.
But consistency does not have to be rigid or boring.
I feel I need to say this because my fellow creatives seem to be extremely hesitant to adopt systems and efficiencies, the things that leverage consistency, like it's going to completely remove any opportunities for creativity.
It won't. I promise.
Just tweak your perspective in 2 ways:
1. Let consistency be your muse.
Constraints breed creativity. Rules are meant to be broken. Consistency is a type of box, so think outside of it.
Sorry for the corny platitudes, but they're true.
2. Consistency is not a broad brush.
Being consistent does not mean you have to do the same shit all the time everyday. What is "consistent" for your company should change with context.
For example, we don't act or dress the same for a hike as we do for a job interview. But we are the same person in both scenarios
We don't need to change who we are because we just dress for the day. And your branding should do the same.
A real branding system is like having impeccable social etiquette and an awesome wardrobe for your business. Your company's spirit never changes, but it always shows up in proper attire and acts appropriately.
This type of consistency is attainable. You can do it for sure.
But you'll need a lot more than a logo and a few colors.
Start by clarifying and defining your company's character. Then you can start building up the appropriate wardrobe.
That's how you can start building an easy to use branding system.
