Nirvana Dispensaries original logo isn't even bad, it's just boring. So this is not about fixing something. It's about me wanting an excuse to work on a dispensary. This was my first take on any type of cannabis branding and I decided to go very stylized.
Naturally, I had a debate with myself to do something with a leaf or not. To be cliché or not to be cliché, that is the question. I decided to go with cliche for 2 reasons:
Clichés exist for a reason. They are a common language, association, or symbol among many people. Basically, they are easy to understand. The downside side is their lack of distinctiveness.
I like challenges. Clichés are powerful tools of communication, but they are not unique. You could say that the Design holy grail would be a unique cliché. Something distinctive that is easily understood by everyone. So I wanted to see how hard would it be to come up with a unique weed leaf graphic.
